theme 2 blend edit blog

I took a photo of a fence and a house behind it and put it with a photo of a tree in the foreground. When editing it I enhanced the coloring of the colors and blended the two photos together so that you could see through the bark to the tree that it came from. I then added more contrast and brightened up the photo as well. I overall like the photo a lot and am printing it.

Theme One Blog

The theme I chose was the challenge between nature and society. I took a photo of the railing  of a baseball fild and the leaves bing crushd underneath. When editing it I added a vintage overlay to make it look old along with a high color contrast to bring out the deep cool colors. I overall like how the photo turned out and I plan to print this photo for my theme photo.

Enviornmental portrait

This is a photo of a gaurd named Charlie and he is a guard at the tower of london. When I took this photo it was from a far away distance and I wanted to make sure I could get the blue door into the photo. When editing this photo I darkened the pole off to the right and enhance the grey coloring throughout the picture. I also added brightness and contrast and I overall like this photo a lot.

Portrait Assignment Blog

I took this photo by shining the light at the back of my model phabio's head and had him make a smile and look at the camera. I put the tripod up so that it would be in line with his face and then I took the photo with a slight amount of zoom. When editing it I enhanced the contrast  and decreased the shimmer of the buttons to decrease the reflection. I overall approve of this photo because of the flaming ears and overall home it turned out.

Color Assignment BLog

When I took this photo I put a piece of paper down to create a white background and took some yarn and lemons to get the complimentary photos. I then zoomed in and focused on a section of the grouping and took the photo. I overall like the photo a lot because of how the colors compliment each other. When I was editing I added an increase in the contrast to separate the lights and dark's of the objects and then enhanced the overall brightness of the photo.

Architecture Photography Assignment Blog

I took this photo by zooming into the very top of the church and put the tower to the side to make it artsy. I set my white balance to cloudy to capture the cloud covered background. The photo was shot horizontally to get the unique architecture of the church roof. I overall like the outcome of the photo and it has become one of my favorite photos of the class. I like the dominating black and white colors, but with the entering color of the masonry on the bottom right corn and the tree tops made the photo good as well.

Ethics of Digital Photography

1.  Why doesn’t Kate Winslet like Photoshop?
Because she wanted to remain as natural as possible.
2.  Who was the first photographer to make a fake picture?  What changes did he make to the photo?
Hippolyte Bayard was the first fake photographer. He took out a clock because it wasnt indian enough.
3.  Why were the changes made to some of the photos in The North American Indian book by Edward S. Curtis so controversial?
It was contriversial because it made native americans look poor and not good enough for such valuable thing.
4.  In what ways are many fashion photos being retouched?
People can change the strucutre of a persons face, make them brighter, enhance their eye color and basically change anything on their body.
5.  Can the term “photo illustration” conceptually compensate for the perception that a photo was “real”? What is the difference?
Photo illustration can not be conceptually compensated because viewing and reading are two different things.
6.  According to the article, how are people expected to judge photographs today?
Perople are expected to judge photopraghy on their context.
7.  How is editing different for photojournalism vs. fashion or fine art photography?
Photojournalism is used to show action in a scene to direct your attention to the scene, art and fashion are used to pull you to a certain object or action created within the scene.
8.  Why did the photojournalist Walski combine the images?  Is it justifiable?
He put these photos together to make a sense of movement to make the audience feel as if they were there experiencing it for themselves. It is ebcause it gives a better look at the situation at hand.
9.  What is said about dodging and burning?
Editing photos at one time was acceptable, but overtime it has overtime been frowned upon because of how much it can make the person or object look fake and unrealistic.
10.  Your thoughts:  What is right and wrong regarding the editing of digital photographs?
It is right because it makes the object look more intriging and worth while, but it makes the object or even a person look fake and not  what it really works like which can disieve the public into thinking it is something that it is not.
11.  Your thoughts:  How do these principles of ethics apply to you and your photography? I ususally like to keep my photos the same as I shot them, but when it comes to little things like brightness and cnotrast I feel that I can change those things because of the little effect they bring.

Digital Photography assignment 1 blog

In this photo I took a large sheet of white paper and used my desk light to get the lighting I wanted. I also put the camera on the ground so that I could get the horizontal shot shown above. I also focused on the end of the lighter to make a sense of blur in the front part of the lighter which I like a lot. I added a greater contrast for the photo to seperate the white and blacks and I brightened the photo as well. I personally like how the photo came out and how the whites and blacks blend. I overall feel that the photo was successful.

Arist Reflection

  1. Why do you create art and what does it mean to you? I create art as a way of showing and teaching my audience something  that I feel thast they need to know or that they need to see. Art for me is a way of expressing myself in an object rather than through verbal confrontation or actions. It is a way for an object to describe my expressions and self.
  2. What inspires you? How are your inspirations expressed in your work? My family and my dog inspire me most. My inspirations are expressed through my work by a combonations of things that represent my life along with things that repesent the families lifes as well.
  3. What type of work have you made so far? What type of work would you like to make during this semester? I have overall made a lot of ceramic pieces along with most of my sisters facebook photos. I would like to take more photos this year in various fields and places.

Artist Analysis
Choose 1 artist and write a paragraph that reflects the following information.
The artist I chose was the photographer Matt Blum and most of his photos are from weddings and celebrations. Matt Blum uses a mixture of photoshop and lighting to emplify the shots. I overall like his sense of style when it comes to his photos and I like the materials he chooses because it really describes what he is trying to say to us.
